Memorial Day Weekend

Friday, May 29
Having completed the school term for this year and spending two days in training classes, my wife and I headed out for an extended weekend. With "no particuliar place to to go" we headed north along HWY 331 into Alabama, having made a motel reservation in Chattanooga TN.

The next day Saturday, found us driving up US 27 through TN and eventually into KY. We stopped for breakfast in Dayton TN and had a run in with the cafe owner about shooting photographs inside his establishment. I've take snapshots in dozens of restaurants without being hassled. This was the exception. I'm not one to draw conclusions but this is the same Dayton, TN where the Skopes Monkey Trial to place and more recently passed a law authorizing the teaching of "intelligent design" along with the Darwinian evolution. Perhaps, the stars and bars on caps and shirts should have tipped me, but I see those all the time, but apparently these folks, aren't playing. I'm considering sending the owner, a well groomed man who worked for 25 years for Lazy-Boy before getting into the restaurant business, a placard that reads:
No Photography Permitted

Despite my felling a little unconfortable, the breakfast was really quite good. I've never heard of the side substitution they offer. You can choose between grits and toast or biscuits-n-gravy. Quite a big breakfast and certainly memorable,.

HWY 27 is one long yard sale, at least it was that day.
